Ed Lake notches another 300

Posted

Monticello bowler Eddie Lake is one of those premier bowlers who takes his game seriously, and he continued to show why he is considered one of the premier bowlers in the Tri-County area as he put another perfect 300 game into the books on Monday, October 28 in the Monday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes.

In the Kiamesha Lanes Monday Men's league Lake smashed the maples for a 180. 300, 265, and a 745 series. He maintains a 222 average in this league and bowls with the A-1 Lawn Care team consisting of Mickey Lake, Larry Whipple and his bother Rick Lake.

Ed prefers using Hammer bowling balls and, in the past, recorded his big scores with a Hammer Epidemic bowling ball.

Lake has been bowling for some 48 years and presently bowls in the league noted above, subs in the Tuesday Mixed Firemen league and bowls in the Friday Mixed league, all at Kiamesha Lanes.

Lake is well remembered for his February 18, 2012 heroics in the Monday Men's league when he scored a 300, 245, 300 for an 845 series.

It's been a while since Eddie has used his old Hammer bowling ball, but we always talk about the old Hammer which he had repaired numerous times and he still believes in the fact that some of the old bowling equipment can still do the job on the lanes.

We love remembering that a number of years ago Lake had been without his 24-year old Hammer as it was being repaired by Mickey Luongo and when he got the ball back within two weeks the old Hammer resulted in the Eddie Lake “300 game Express” for his ninth 300 game on December 29, 2008.

Lake on October 1 and October 2, 2007, made Sullivan County bowling history by bowling 300 games on consecutive nights all at Kiamesha Lanes.

His high 856 series was bowled in 2004 in the Wednesday Men's league at Kiamesha Lanes.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo

Bowlers, this week we are going to give advice to senior bowlers.

You are never too old to have fun and winning has no age.

Age is not a disadvantage to being able to bowl if you can adjust your game to your personal abilities.

Bowling can be used as a socializing and exercise tool and also a way of stress relief.

Most people overlook the therapeutic and psychological benefits of bowling.

Remember, it is important to be comfortable when bowling. If you are wearing special shoes when not bowling, there is no reason to not have the same support when bowling.

Also remember to dress comfortably ... loose fitting clothes with short sleeves are probably the best choice.

Make sure you choose the proper ball weight by keeping in mind that the ball used 20 years ago may not work for you anymore. Establish the ball weight that works best for you. Do keep in mind that a ball which is too light can cause your swing to be flat and create poor direction or loss of hitting power.

Proper ball fit and grip is very important and the recommended grip for a senior is the conventional grip. Another method of improving the strength of your grip is by drilling an extra hole...this is not unusual and it helps more than you think.

All seniors should also use wrist supports to strengthen your grip.

As a senior you may want to use a back of knee support just to insure that you do not suffer from an older ailment.

And very important, stretching exercises will help you to loosen the joints and muscles.
