Edward Robert Sykes, 24, best known as Eddie, was living in Tyler Hill, PA. He was born December 4th, 1998 at Community General Hospital in Harris, New York and lived a short but beautiful life.

As a little boy, growing up with 3 sisters, who will miss him more than words can say, he quickly became our little “prince”. He was cute, mischievous, and smart beyond his years. He was a member of the 4-H MooJuicers for 10 years where he showed cows with his family in Grahamsville. He was a 2016 graduate of Sullivan West High School. During his time in school his 3 greatest joys were football, math and having “lots” of fun with his friends.

Being raised in the Catholic Church we always thought his career choice was going to be a priest. But then his clever ways and love of math changed that, so he went to Oneonta to pursue a career that involved Mathematics. He soon learned that school was not for him and found himself in a kitchen. Working at great restaurants in the area like The Tavern, White Sulphur Springs Inn, The Carousel and Pelkeys where he was not only known for his great food and work ethic but his personality. Since that moment Eddie became an expert Chef. His friends called him Gordon Ramsay for his impeccable taste in food. He had other numerous hobbies such as fishing, being a Giants fan, and poker. After realizing his love and mastery of poker, he decided to work for the Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, NY. His friends also named him fondly “The Commissioner” for their weekly poker night. If you asked any of his friends today, you would hear that he was one hell of a guy, like a brother. No matter how much of a jokester he was, he had a heart of gold.

On March 27th, 2023 at approximately 3:45 pm, Eddie passed away in a tragic head-on car accident on Rt 97 in Cochecton NY, on his way to play poker at his friend’s house. He is survived by his mother Amy Kerber (Kyle) of Tyler Hill, PA; father Edward F Sykes (Cherryl) of Beach Lake, PA; siblings Danielle Sykes (Tanner), Carrie Sykes, Kole Kerber, and Beth Sykes; maternal grandparents Robert and Linda Kays of Callicoon, NY; paternal grandparents Joyce and Edward T Sykes of Callicoon, NY; step-paternal grandparents Larry and Shirley Kerber of Tyler Hill, PA; aunts and uncles Jeffrey Kays (Rosa), Gregory Kays (Sarah), Adam Kays, Michelle Sykes, and Beth Kerber (Hugh); cousins Melinda Lovgren (Erik), Jonathan and Nicholas SanFilippo, Maggie and Jake Keller (Emily), Brittany (Vinny) and Clay (Katie} Taninies. He has a large extended family of great aunts, uncles, and cousins with an even greater number of friends. He is predeceased by his two uncles Gary Kays in 2001 and Brian Sykes in 2022; also his Great Aunt Diane Naisby in 2021.

Eddie’s family will be holding a viewing on Sunday, April 2nd from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Stewart Murphy  Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main Street in Callicoon. His funeral will be Monday, April 3rd at 11 am at the Kays Family Cemetery, 117 Reum Rd, Callicoon, NY 12723. A luncheon will be held at the Delaware Youth Center following the burial.

No gifts or flowers are required only the presence at his services to share stories and memories of a life that was filled with promise and hope.
