SULLIVAN COUNTY –– County legislators voted unanimously to repeal the four percent residential energy tax in its entirety on Thursday.
This comes two weeks after a resolution, passed by a 5-4 vote, amended the tax so it would only be imposed on electricity.
As previously reported in the Democrat, the county was recently informed by the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance that enactment of such legislation will take up to 90 days after they pass the resolution, and since sales tax can only be modified quarterly, it is unlikely that the county will have State approval to make this change until December 1, 2021.
