Estella Francesca Schulman, a resident of Goshen, NY, formerly of Monticello, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Glen Arden Healthcare Center, she was 103.

The daughter of Michael Formissano and Estelle Wegener Formissano, Estella was born January 29, 1919, in Jersey City, NJ.

She and her husband David owned and operated the Sundry Shoppe, Gift, and Cosmetic Shops in the Concord Hotel. She was a popular lecturer on skincare and cosmetics to the many hotel guests. In 1965 David and Estella moved to the island of St. Maarten. At the Concord St. Maarten they operated the Sundry Shoppe and in the Dutch capital of Phillipsport established a successful real estate business. 

While residing in Monticello, Estella was an active member of many clubs, organizations and charities. She was a principal member and performer in the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop and a founder of the Periwinkle Players, a children’s theatrical company. As an artist, Estella was a prolific and accomplished painter and weaver. As an author, she published, Now Listen Good a Caribbean Cookbook. Estella was an exceptional wife, mother, and friend. She cared deeply for those she loved. She was always happy, with a curious mind, both as a student and teacher of life. 

She is survived by her beloved son, Mark, daughter-in-law Jill, granddaughter Samantha and her husband Donald, and great-granddaughter Sophie. Estelle was pre-deceased by her loving husband David Schulman, her companion of 25 years, Paul Abramson and her brothers Michael Formissano, Charles Laughman, and sister Adelaide Hart. 

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at 2:00pm at the Temple Sholom Synagogue Cemetery, South Woods Road, Monticello, NY.
