DAMASCUS, PA - Farm Arts Collective is pleased to present Ezell: Ballad of a Land Man, an environmental, cultural and spiritual parable created by the farm-based theatre company, Clear Creek Creative in rural Kentucky. This event will be held from June 3-5 at Farm Arts Collective. Show times are 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, then 4 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $35 and $15 for kids.                                                                        Tickets can be purchased at https://www.farmartscollective.org/calendar.

The event includes a farm-fresh meal served to all audience members following each performance with live Appalachian music by Clear Creek and local musicians.

Written and performed by Bob Martin, the performance is derived from the foothills of Appalachia, and tells the story of one man who seeks to make sense of the time, place and condition in which he lives. In the story, Ezell’s choices, traumas, and ancestors intersect with themes of domination and resilience as he seeks to take advantage of an anticipated fracking boom and the opportunity to reconnect with the people and land of his raising.

Ezell is in part a study of domination in the wide range of its forms — domination between a man and the land, between a man and other people, between a man and himself. It is in part a story about how climate change, the extractive resource industry and intergenerational trauma impact the choices and decisions of a man and the land he would like to call home.

The performance is in part a ceremony that calls to our desire for connection and belonging, that reveres nature and binds us intimately within her, to invoke the resilience, love and lessons of our ancestors and generations to come.

Produced by Carrie Brunk, directed by Nick Slie, designed by Jeff Becker, music and sound led by Cory Shenk, guide performance by Faye Adams-Eaton, Nicole Garneau and Lisa Shattuck, Jess Beveridge, John Roth, Colette Ballew, guest musicians Doug Rogers and Roger Brinkerhoff, production support by Hannah Burt, technical support and additional music by Jacob Mudd, food by Tannis Kowalchuk and Carol Negro.

The national tour of Ezell is made possible by a National Theater Project award from the New England Foundation for the Arts as well as support from Alternate ROOTS, Chorus Foundation, National Performance Network, Network of Ensemble Theaters and local partners in each community we visit.
