Many have been living in great fear for the past year, and it continues to escalate. But God's desire is for faith to overcome our fear. Since faith comes from hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17), I thought I would let God speak for me today. I have read that there are 366 “fear not, do not fear, do not be afraid” scriptures in the Bible, one for each day of the year, as well as an extra for Leap Year. I cannot fit them all here, but wanted to share some fear not scriptures with you.

In the Old Testament there are many examples of God telling the Israelites not to fear as they moved forward to fight against their enemies to possess the Promised Land, as well as other times when their enemies threatened. Here are some examples.

Deuteronomy 31:6&8 - “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you…The Lord Himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

Joshua 1:9 - “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Isaiah 41:10&13 - “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand…For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.'”

Isaiah 43:1 - “But now, this is what the Lord says… ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.'”

Jeremiah 1:8 - “ ‘Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,' declares the Lord.”

Hebrews 13:6 echoes the Psalmist in Psalm 118:5-6 - “So we can say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?'”

Jesus also had much to say to His followers about fear, continuing to encourage them to just believe and let go of fear. Mark 5:36 says, “Jesus told him, ‘Don't be afraid; just believe.'”

John 14:27 - “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Jesus reassured His disciples with these words before His crucifixion and resurrection, and His assurance that He would return for us all one day.

Luke 2:9-11 - “An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord.”

Jesus the Messiah, the Lord, is still our only real defense against fear. He is still the good news that will bring us great joy, and He still reigns supreme over it all.
