White Sulphur Springs – The Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs of Sullivan County hosted its first ever Sportsmen’s Banquet. President of the FOSCSC John Van Etten said, “We used to do a coyote contest but it was recently outlawed in New York. It’s very similar to the banquet we’ve always done. This is our biggest fundraiser.” Roughly 250 attendees were signed up for dinner.
About 100 more than were expected showed up, he said. “This banquet is going to help us raise the funds for all the good stuff we do.”
Recently The Federation hosted a free Youth Ice Fishing Derby that drew in 162 children. Ray Valk, President of the Federated Sportsmen’s Clubs of Ulster County, was in attendance to help support a great cause.
The general accord of everyone in attendance was that they were there to support the federation, and of course, enjoy a good meal. Smiles and laughs could be heard all around the room while everyone enjoyed their roast beef, mashed potatoes, corn and green beans.
There were gun raffles, door prizes, the famous “Booze and Bullets” sled full of cheer and ammo, and 50/50’s. Eric Dallendorfer was the lucky winner of the first 50/50 taking home a huge pot of $1,276! Congratulations Eric. Jim Steinberg Sr. and Fred Ramsey Sr. shared in great conversation about the event. Steinberg said, “We’re members of the Mohogany Ridge Hunting Camp in Monticello, and we came out to show our support.”
Sullivan County District Attorney Brian Conaty was in attendance to show his support among other dignitaries including recently elected Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay, and NY Senator Peter Oberacker.
Van Etten says they will continue to host the banquet in the years to come to help raise money for the club.
