Forestburgh pool closed for summer

FORESTBURGH — The town pool will not be opening this summer by vote of the town board. The closure is partialy due to a lack of qualified lifeguards available; a problem faced by many pools, waterparks and beaches around the state.

According to the town board, it cost roughly $15,000 to operate the pool for only two months in 2021, and because they are usually open at this point of the season, opening would not be a viable option.

Board member Susan Parks-Landis said the search for lifeguards began in January, reaching out to organizations such as other towns, schools and the Red Cross inquiring about the availability of possible lifeguards. Deputy Town Supervisor Steve Budofsky was joined by the rest of the board in thanking Parks-Landis for her search efforts.

The playground adjacent to the pool remains open to the public.
