Free fishing Friday

Although the season is drawing to a close, and the temperatures are slowly settling into the frosty winter cold, today is the sixth and final Free Fishing Day of the year. It was selected to coincide with Veterans Day, as a way to pay tribute to America’s veterans.

“Through their service and sacrifice, we continue to have the opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy our state’s great fisheries,” the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) press release noted.

The press release added that you can plan your fishing trip with their HuntFishNY app and use the new “Tackle Box” feature, or visit their “Places to Fish” website.

There are 15 lakes and ponds listed on their website, as well as the local rivers that run throughout the county to choose from when deciding where to fish today.

Free Fishing Days are designated dates where anglers do not need a fishing license to fish in New York’s fresh waters, however anglers must still follow all other fishing regulations.
