Gary Peters still leading Democrat Big Buck Contest

SULLIVAN COUNTY - What a difference a 1/4 inch makes.

That is all that separates first from second place in the 48th Annual Sullivan County Democrat/Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs of Sullivan County (FOSCOSC) Big Buck Contest.

“It that’s close,” Sullivan County Democrat Sports Editor Anthony Morgano said. “This year has shown what terrific bucks we have here in Sullivan County, and we are delighted by the great turnout.”

Although no Pennsylvania deer have been entered, Gary Peters of Fremont has kept his narrow lead in the contest, fending off hunters from across Sullivan County.

Corey Van Keuren, hunting on November 28 in the Town of Bethel, took an impressive 7-pointer, which sported a 25.25-inch spread. The buck also had beams of 22 and 23.5 inches to move into second place at 77.75.

Moving into third place was Mike Park of Livingston Manor, who was hunting in the Town of Rockland on November 27, a windy Saturday. Mike’s 10-point buck had a 21.5-inch spread to go along with 21.75 and 22.75 inch beams, good for third place at 76.

“We still have two weekends of hunting left, and if I know Sullivan County hunters, there are more trophies out in the field to be harvested,” Morgano said.
