LOCH SHELDRAKE – The Generals hosted the inaugural Darius Lee Memorial Classic over the weekend, inviting CCBC-Dundalk and the County College of Morris into the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse. The Generals swept their opponents and have won four of their last five contests.

On Friday night, hosting CCBC-Dundalk at 7 p.m., the Generals got out to a hot start and rode it to an 82-55 victory. On Saturday, after a back-and-forth first half, SUNY Sullivan pulled away for an 88-70 win.

“The quick turnaround gave us some trouble early on,” Generals’ Coach Brent Wilson said after the game. “Our offense was predicated by our defense, and once we settled in we were able to get going.”

The Morris Titans jumped out to an early 20-11 lead after just seven-and-a-half minutes had gone by in the game, but a timeout gave the Generals the reset they needed, and they answered with a 20-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 31-25 lead. The Generals, who led by as many as nine points, had their lead dwindle to five by halftime.

During the break, a bus load of Darius Lee’s family and friends were invited to the court for a ceremony. Stories were told about Lee’s college basketball career, including both his time as a General and at Houston Baptist.

Lee’s jersey was encased and displayed for all the fans and players gathered along with the friends and family in attendance.

“It was too emotional,” Wilson said. “I got really close with Darius during his time here. It was a well-deserved honor for all of his contributions.”

In the second half, the Generals seemed re-energized, starting on a 16-3 run and taking control of the game. From that point, the defense stepped up and held the Titans to 30 more points while adding 30 more of their own for an 88-70 victory.

The Generals will have a quick turnaround and head to Ulster County Community College tonight to take on the Senators.
