It’s not beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Donohue household as the song goes. I am slowly getting out cards and decorations for a tree which hasn’t arrived at my door yet. I did take down the summery wreath from my front door and replaced it with a Christmas-y one which was made by my friend Margery Van Ginhoven a few years ago. I also put a crocheted tree one on my kitchen door which was made by a fellow office worker many years ago. I will be putting up angels in my bedroom windows and a sleigh full of decorations on my outdoor stoop.
I no longer wrap gifts but use the paper gift bags that save a lot of time and money. Instead of outside lights, I am considering lighting up the entire walls outside of my house. I still refuse to put up an artificial tree. I will be baking Christmas cookies with the help of my granddaughter, Shauna and giving some to neighbors and friends.
So as usual I’m getting a late start on preparing for Christmas but I’m looking forward to what is left to do. I will be shedding a few tears when I place two cards under the tree which were given to me by my dear friend, Amalia Vazquez Here is what is written on the cards, one for my husband, Jim and one for my son, Jimmy – “I will be spending Christmas with Jesus this year.”
Here’s wishing you all happy holidays.
