God to the rescue

Posted

From the beginning of creation, God has been in the rescuing business. He sees, hears and knows what His people are going through at all times, and as we cry out to Him for help, He comes down to rescue us.

Joseph found this out when his jealous brothers decided to strip him of the beautiful coat of many colors that his father had presented him with, and then planned to kill him. But God intervened and instead they threw him into a pit, later to pull him out and sell him to Ishmaelite traders heading for Egypt.

Once there, Joseph was sold as a slave to Potiphar, the captain of the palace guard. Still the Lord was with Joseph, even after Potiphar’s wife falsely accused him and he was thrown into an Egyptian prison. Alone and forgotten, Joseph had been stripped of his home, his family, his identity, and now his freedom. He could have easily felt unloved and abandoned.

But God had plans for Joseph and He never left him alone for one moment. God always knew where Joseph was and what was going on with him. When the time was right, God made a way where there had been no way to not only rescue him from prison, but exalted him to rule over all of Egypt, second in command to Pharaoh.

Many years later, Joseph’s descendants also found themselves in Egypt as slaves to their cruel masters. They, too, had lost their homes, identity and freedom, and lived without hope of a future. There was no help available to them, and they lived like this, under forced labor, for hundreds of years.

But God knew of their suffering and raised up a deliverer, Moses. As God spoke to Moses, He said, “I have observed the misery of my people in Egypt, and have heard them crying out because of their oppressors. I know about their sufferings, and I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians…” (Exodus 3:7-8 CSB).

God observed their misery. He always sees what we are suffering with. He sees us right where we’re at and what we’re going through. Even when we feel all alone in the world and abandoned, God sees us. We’re never alone.

God heard them crying out. He always hears us when we cry out to Him for help. He is moved to compassion when we turn to Him and acknowledge our need for help. He hears the deepest cries of our hearts, those we can’t even express.

God knows about our suffering. During those times we feel like slaves to our bondages, stuck and unable to move on, God knows and always has a way of escape. In our times of grief, loss, loneliness, pain and sorrow, He knows what’s going on in our lives and He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

God comes down to rescue us. Just as God has rescued those who are His own from the beginning of time, He is still available to rescue us. He knows our needs at all times and when the time is right, He makes that way for us, too. God will not leave us without hope as we cry out to Him, for He has a good plan for a hopeful future for each of us.
