SULLIVAN COUNTY — Governor Kathy Hochul announced an award of $1.5 million in grants for 39 projects in Hudson River Estuary Watershed Communities, with the Hudson River Watershed Alliance receiving $39,183.

According to the office of Governor Hochul, the Hudson River Watershed Alliance, which extends through Sullivan, Green, and Ulster counties, plans to use the grant to implement a community-based Land Use Leadership Alliance training program.

The goal of the training is to develop sustainable communities throughout the Rondout and Esopus Creek watersheds.

“The 39 grants announced today, totaling more than $1.5 million in awards, will provide dozens of Hudson River watershed communities with the support they need to improve recreation and access to the river while working to preserve and protect the Estuary for future generations," Governor Hochul said.

According to the office of Governor Hochul, these grants will promote environmental stewardship, protect communities from future flooding and enhance river access and education.

“New York State is committed to investing in projects that will improve community resiliency and protect our natural resources in the Hudson River Valley and across the state," Governor Hochul continued.

The 39 separate grants are universally funded by the State’s Environmental Protection Fund, while the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Hudson River Estuary Program is administering the grants.
