Harry Dennis III scores first 300

Posted

Forty-three year-old Wurtsboro bowler Harry Dennis III recorded his first career 300 game on Friday night September 20 in the Kiamesha Lanes Friday Mixed league.

Harry rolled the perfect game on lanes 7 & 8 using an Ebonite Choice Pearl bowling ball.

The 300 was bowled with the Harry O's bowling team with teammates Naomi Tolley, Bob Sze and Bill Schubert.

Harry has been bowling for some eight years and noted that all the strikes were in the pocket.

His total score for the night was 300, 202, 150 for a 652 series.

He currently maintains a 188 average in the league, which is the only one he bowls in.

Married with three children Harry is employed with HVAC Services in Middletown.

Ed's Outlook

The PBA Regional Tour provides a means for high caliber bowlers and high average local league bowlers to sharpen their skills before competing on the big stage offered by the PBA and PBA50.

The Regional Tour give bowlers the opportunity to compete at the professional level in weekend events and most of the time within easy travel distances.

Approximately 170 professionally-operated weekend tournaments span the U.S. each year offering a variety of formats and official lane condition challenges in each of the seven domestic regions plus Japan.

This offers local bowlers the opportunity to test their skills at a high level with rewarding prize money for those who excel.

Non-members can bowl too. Although you'll forfeit exclusive benefits that PBA members receive, you can still bowl in PGA Regional events as a non-member within certain rules that apply and one of these rules is that you must average at least 200 in a USBC-certified league.

Bowling Tip

By Mike Luongo

Repeating a good bowling shot requires bowlers to release the ball the same way shot after shot.

This week we will talk about the release and offer information that will help bowlers of all levels.

A properly executed release is possibly one of the most understood parts of a bowling shot. Most bowlers want to muscle the ball through the release zone and they do this by accelerating or decelerating on the downswing.

The proper release for all bowlers is executed by letting gravity bring the ball from the top of the swing through the release zone with no interference from your arm or shoulder muscles.

If the ball fits properly, the gravity will take it off your hand at the right time providing your body is in the proper position. Any rotation on the ball should come from your hand only ... not your arm.

Using the proper technique will allow you to get as much rotation on the ball as desired.

When your bowling ball does not fit properly this is where it will require excessive grip pressure to hold on to which will make the release harder to execute.

Gravity can be your best friend or worst enemy depending on how you use it.
