Hauenstein named alternate ambassador

NORTHEASTERN PA – Kristin Hauenstein, a senior at Western Wayne High School, is the new PA Alternate Maple Ambassador for 2022-23. On November 5 she attended the State Maple Association meeting held this year at the PA Lumber Museum near Coudersport, Pa.

Kristin and the candidates from Tioga and Potter Counties each delivered a presentation on maple production and showed a self-produced video advertising maple products. The new PA Maple Ambassador is Riley Thompson from Potter County, Pa.

Kristin is the daughter of Keith and Bridget Hauenstein of Lake Ariel, PA, and comes from a family of maple producers. Kristin has worked with her dad and Ron Shemanski tapping trees for sap, laying out tubing lines for sap collection, checking for leaks, boiling sap, assisting with clean-up, and packaging and selling maple products at multiple shows and fairs.

Kristin comes to her new role with experience. She has been this year’s Northeastern PA Maple Ambassador representing all of Wayne, Pike, and Lackawanna Counties and the surrounding areas. The state maple council consists of six maple associations, four along the northern tier of PA as well as associations in Somerset County and the Juniata River Valley.
