SULLIVAN COUNTY –– It’s not often that a hurricane or tropical storm makes landfall in the Northeast, but that’s what Tropical Storm Henri did on Sunday in Rhode Island, bringing the potential for heavy rains and flooding to the Hudson Valley.

The region spent most of Sunday and Monday in a Flash Flood Watch. The County Manager’s Office, the Office of Emergency Management and the Division of Public Works have been in frequent contact with weather and State authorities, and the Governor’s Office had included Sullivan County as part of the State of Emergency issued relating to the storm.

According to Sullivan County Director of Communications, Dan Hust, as of Monday morning, impacts from Henri has thus far been minimal, mostly downed trees and limbs.

“Currently, about 135 people in Sullivan County are without power, the bulk in the Town of Mamakating,” said Hust. “We endured very little wind, and rain totals thus far have averaged about 1.5 inches (1.79 recorded at the airport), with locally higher amounts.”

Hust added that while it appears the strongest winds stayed east of the county and the heaviest rains impacted communities to our west, the county is still keeping a watchful eye as Henri's drenching remains rotate out of the area.
