July 6 - There really isn’t anything better than great summer picnics with food, friends and sunshine.

Then when you throw in scholarship awards for our local high school graduates and recognizing our community members who stepped up in a big way during the pandemic you have a winning formula for the upcoming Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce Community Celebration and Awards Picnic. The event called “Love Where You Live” will take place on Saturday, July 11th from 1:00-4:00p.m. The picnic will be held in the Minisink Battleground Park which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Minisink Park has fifty-seven acres with picnic areas, a pavilion, restrooms, and some well-marked walking trails for the famous historic battle fought in July 1779 between the local militia and a group of Tories led by Colonel Joseph Brant and Iroquois fighters during what is considered one of the bloodiest battles per capita during the Revolutionary War. Today this peaceful uncrowded Park is a favorite stop for many visitors who love to see our historic sites.

The Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce has done so many amazing and creative events and they have a wonderful picnic celebration planned. At last week’s Eldred Central School’s graduation, on behalf of the Chamber, Board Secretary Laura Burrell presented the Volunteer Scholarships to two graduating seniors, Gabriella Del-Rio, and Mudra Patel.

The Chamber also recognized those members of our community who while the pandemic raged among us went to work and provided healthcare, essential services, emergency responses, food pantries, and the ongoing contributions of a long-time business owner and philanthropist.

At the Community Celebration, these Hometown Heroes will be honored by the community. Our thanks and congratulations to all. There will be food by way of meal boxes for two people from BVH Bar, The Stickett Inn and The Yulan Country Store, a cash bar and live music.

What is a picnic without some excitement going on? A Silent Auction is now in progress at the Chamber’s website, and there are some wonderful things to bid on like a home HEPA Air Purifier, a year’s membership to the Barryville Chamber of Commerce with all the benefits and a week’s stay at a swanky seaside resort with a golf course in Rockport, Maine!

According to Ms. Burrell “The Chamber is happy to announce our Annual Fundraiser being held for the first time in many years during the summer. An event not to be missed! We waited over a year to host this event in person, and it will be a great opportunity to rejoin your community and celebrate the hard work being done here. Proceeds from the annual auction go towards the 2022 Eldred Graduating Senior Scholarship Awards.”

Tickets are $50.00 per person and can be purchased from any Chamber Board member or on the Greater Barryville Chamber of Commerce website.

All Covid social distancing guidelines will be followed so bring your chairs and blankets to sit comfortably under the shade trees and parking is limited so carpooling is suggested. For tickets or more information go to barryvilleny.com.
