The American Legion Post 1362 will be holding their homemade Soup and Bake Sale on Saturday, November 13th. I went to the last sale and definitely stocked up on some really delicious and interesting soups.

This year the Auxiliary members have expanded the variety of soups available for the sale to several vegetarian options including vegetarian split pea or with ham or with kielbasa, chicken noodle, vegetarian minestrone, vegetable beef, vegetarian vegetable soup and a spicy chili with meat. The soup prices are $4.00 for a pint (or two pints for $7.00) and $7.00 for a quart.

The bake sale will feature homemade breads. We love- pumpkin, cranberry, banana, zucchini, and corn bread. They will also be selling some killer homemade cookies and brownies. This year the Auxiliary members have added a themed basket raffle to the event-so far there are ten baskets and two I know of are a cooking and a wine and cheese basket. The raffle tickets are $1.00 or six tickets for $5.00. The drawing will be held at 3:00 the day of the Sale, and the winners will be called to pick up their baskets.

The Soup and Bake sale will be held next Saturday the 13th in the Eldred Town Hall from Noon until 3:00 p.m., and it is wise to go early for the best selection and because they always sell out. Funds raised from the sale go towards supporting the Auxiliary’s local Scholarship Fund. For more information you can call Martha Worzel at (845) 557-6973.

Many of the upcoming holiday food programs and dinners will be “Take Out Only” so I am providing information about the most popular food events and the deadlines so those who are interested can have plenty of time to sign up. St Ann’s Catholic Church in Shohola has a lot of wonderful community programs, and they distribute food boxes at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Parish’s catchment area includes the Eldred school district as well as folks in Pike County.

For St Ann’s Friday, November 12th is the last day to register for their Thanksgiving food boxes which will be distributed on Thursday, November 18th. Friday, December 10th is the last day to register for the Christmas food boxes which will be distributed on Thursday, December 16th.

To register for the food boxes, call the Parish Office at (570) 832-4275 or go to www.stannshohola.org The other Christmas program that St. Ann’s parish sponsors is the Giving Tree. It provides Christmas gifts for children. You fill out a Giving Tree tag about the child and what they want, and it’s hung on a Christmas Tree in the Church and the parishioner takes the tag and provide gifts. To sign up call the St Ann’s Parish Office.

The Knights of Columbus at St Ann’s also distributes home cooked take-out meals twice a month every other Sunday-usually the first and third Sunday. The program is called Food for Families and Friends. For information about signing up call Frank Fanelli at (347) 446-9636 or check out Shohola Helping Shohola group on Facebook.

Both St Ann’s in Shohola and St. Anthony’s Church in Yulan have food pantries. St Ann’s food pantry is the first and third Thursday of each month from 9-1:00 pm and the distribution for the pantry happens in the church’s parking lot. You can register online on their website or call the Parish Office. St. Anthony’s church has a pantry every Thursday starting at 11:00 am in the Community Center opposite the church on Beaver Brook Road.

St Anthony’s also lets everyone just sign up for the Thanksgiving and Christmas meal distributions. To enroll for the holiday meals or the weekly pantry distribution please call the food pantry coordinator Margie Granese at (845) 557-0583.

Kesia Labuda, bless her heart, is organizing her annual free Community Thanksgiving Dinner held on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 25th, from noon until 3:00pm. The dinner is “take-out only” and will be distributed at the Lumberland Town Hall which is located at 1054 Proctor Road.

The Dinner will be Turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, dinner rolls and dessert. The deadline for signing up is Monday, November 22nd and the organizers would appreciate your making a reservation for planning purposes. To make a reservation and sign up for the dinner call Kesia Labuda at (845) 672-3896.
