Want something special for the men on your Christmas list? Clobr Garments and Goods Store in Barryville has an excellent selection of clothing and gifts. Clobr or (Clobber) means everything you need. It is your gear, stuff you put on and head out for your day. This unique store has menswear, (mostly) womenswear, natural personal care products, fragrances, lotions, soaps, gift sets.

The clothing comes from manufacturers in the USA, France, England, and Spain and “it’s winter so we have a lot of fine wool garments to have everyone looking great and staying warm” co-owner Laz Adebiyi told me. “I have cashmere sox, footwear, some clothing for women, nice fragrances, specialty candles and something for just about everyone on your gift list.” Laz an independent art and fashion writer along with co-owner Maxine hand selects everything in the store.

Right now they are holding a winter coat drive. If you donate a winter coat you will receive a ten percent discount on whatever you purchase and the inventory in the store is changing constantly depending on the fashion market trends. Clobr is a great specialized shopping spot tucked away at 3362 Route 97 in Barryville next to McKean’s. “We wanted a store that you could find anything you need…and the brands we carry share our values-quality goods, slow fashion, attention to detail and versatile” Laz told me.

The Clobr Garments and Goods store hours vary, but they are open on weekends from 11am-5pm but it is best to call them at (917) 702-4630 or (845) 546-0337. You can email at clobrstore@outlook.com and check them out on Instagram and Facebook.

As Dr Seuss said in How the Grinch Stole Christmas “What if Christmas doesn’t come from a store, what if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.” This could not be more the case when one thinks about the upcoming Barryville Christmas Farmers Market which will be on Saturday, December 18th between the hours of 10am-1pm in their home space at 3405 NY Route 97 in the parking lot of the Barryville United Methodist Church.

With the yawning jaws of winter before us the Christmas Farmers Market will be their final until next Spring. In the last three years the Barryville Farmers Market has revitalized our local farm community and by doing so helped to ensure that there will be successful family farms and purveyors in our community in years to come.

And what a lineup of vendors they have to close out the year-Hilly Acres Farm, Marley’s Mushrooms, Country Road Bakery, Fretta’s Italian Specialties, Twin Brook Farms, Quails R Us, Tonjes Dairy, Lilly Bear Pet Treats, Stickett Inn, Woodside Blue Preserves, Nikki C’s Seafood, Coopers Daughter Distillery, Shrewd Fox Brewery, and some newer gift purveyors Holy Oylh, (natural handmade health, beauty and skincare products) Wheels Over Matter (soaps, candles lip balm and resin art) and Sweet Beast (quality small batch hot sauces). There will be live music by The Wiggle Room.

There will be a donation collection jug at the Market Visitors Greeting tent for local families in need-and boy has this been an enormous blessing to our community during these troubled times! Just perhaps all these wonderful community rooted farms, shoppers, volunteers, purveyors, crafts people, donators, and musicians is really an exceptionally fine example of “a little bit more” at Christmas time as Dr Seuss wrote sixty-five years ago. Congratulations and thank you to the staff and volunteers of the Barryville Farmers Market for completing their third successful year.

For many of the past years the Village of Barryville has had a car wash. The problem was for most of the time it was closed for “repairs,” so we all accommodated by driving around in dirty, mud splattered vehicles. As luck would have it there are now new owners who remodeled and revamped the car wash and seriously upgraded the services they provide.

The Barryville Chamber of Commerce will be holding an Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony next Saturday December 18th at 1:00 pm. To celebrate Jared Lamanna from Churchill Classic Cars will be displaying some of his best vintage and foreign cars and there will be refreshments served.
