Sara Kovacs is at fourteen years old the eldest daughter of Judit and Konrad Kovacs the owners of the Yulan Country Store and Konrads Kitchen and Grill.

Sara who is an eighth-grade student is blessed with a wonderful singing voice and is an accomplished trombone player as well. Because of her musical gifts she was invited to join the Wallenpaupack Area High School Choir.

Sponsored by the American Council for International Studies, (ACIS.com) the Choir will be giving three concerts in France this coming June and Sara needs to raise money so she can go on this “experience of a lifetime” trip and perform with the Choir. “I am really excited by the opportunity to make this trip and travel to France, and I am grateful for the support I have gotten from our community.”

In addition, Sara has earned High Academic Honors and maintains an average of 95% in her school studies and is the Secretary of the National Junior Honors Society. When I asked her about her other school activities Sara said she is the section leader of the School’s Band’s brass section and is in a local Jazz Band as well.

In her non-music related activities, Sara told me she volunteers in the School’s Library. I know Sara because she frequently works several shifts at the family’s Country Store. (I’m tired just thinking about her schedule!)

The trip to France is in June so there is time to raise the $3,000. she needs to travel with the twenty students in the Choir. Right now, the Choir is sponsoring a pretty cool raffle to raise money -two domestic airline tickets valued at over $1,000. The raffle tickets are $25.00 with $20.00 going towards Sara’s travel expenses and $5.00 towards renting a bus to the airport.

The winner will be drawn on January 20th. Starting in February premium chocolate bars will go on sale to help the fundraising which you can purchase at the Yulan Country Store. Donations will continue to be accepted until the end of April.

The ACIS has a link for Sara’s fundraiser for the Wallenpaupack Area High School Choir France Tour: https://webapp.acis.com/fundraising/landing_public/8WD0U2Q3-6KCK-9Q9D-0EBLZLNH1LMG1P2O.

Successful students have good teachers and a natural curiosity to learn new things and are willing to put in the effort to produce quality work. Also, by engaging their daughters in the operations of their family business, Judit and Konrad instilled in them at an early age the benefits and the challenging work needed to be successful, the importance of being a collaborator and doing any job put before them to the best of their ability.

Now with a little help from family, friends and her community, Sara will have a dream opportunity of visiting France and performing with the choir. Donations in any amount will help this exceptionally talented young student meet her goal. For more information go to ACIS.com or call the Yulan Country Store at (845) 557-0425.

You can also go into the Yulan Country Store during regular business hours and donate. Checks can be made payable to Sara’s mother Judit Kovacs and list Sara’s France Trip in the check’s memo. Bonne chance Sara!
