It is heartening to see that the Town of Highland continues to rally around the Giglio family as their daughter Isabel deals with her recovery from brain surgery.

Lou Monteleone from The Corner and the Pizza Piazza is now selling some beautiful yellow and purple #Team Izzy wristbands. “Our children are the fabric of this country. We must do everything in our power to help them during their battles” Lou told me.

The wristbands are $5.00, and Lou has about 150 wristbands for sale in both adult and youth sizes and 100% of the proceeds will go to her family. The wristbands are now for sale at The Corner Store in Eldred so stop by and pick one up.

I really miss going to yard sales. Since the lockdown I have been to only one yard sale a few weeks ago in Highland Lake.

So, I was excited to see a poster that St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey will be holding a two-day Yard Sale. St Volodymyr's is the beautiful wooden church at 406 High Road and several of my Ukrainian friends attend Church services there.

The Yard Sale will begin on Saturday, September 5th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and then on Sunday, September 6th starting at 1:30 p.m. (after church services) until… Another huge draw is on both sale days they will have a freshly cooked lunch menu of Ukrainian foods available.

I spoke with Irene Blethen one of the Yard Sale organizers who told me that the Church had been undergoing some renovations this year before it was closed down because of the virus so it's been very hectic getting the sale organized. Ms. Blethen said there are a lot more things for sale this year including some very lovely pieces. Also, during past years, the women from the Church did all the cooking, but this year the men oversee the kitchen duties.

The lunch menu will have fresh perogies stuffed with potatoes, onions and cheese with a side of onions and sour cream ($6.00) or a dozen for $10.00 for sale and grilled kielbasa sausage sandwiches with kapusta (Ukrainian sauerkraut- $8.00) During Sunday lunch there will be a special combination plate of three perogies and a grilled kielbasa sandwich for $10.00. Soda and water will be available for sale as well.

The yard sale is cash only and no “early birds” please. All CDC Covid-19 protocols will be followed-including wearing face masks and social distancing.

So, mark your calendars and stop by for the sale and then have a wonderful lunch. For more information go to www.stvolodymyrukrainiancatholicchurch.com or visit their Facebook page.

Congratulations are in order for Yulan's own Bizzy Coy who was just awarded a very prestigious Fulbright Scholarship. A lot of us know Bizzy from her work with the community education programs at Bethel Woods.

Come September Bizzy will be in Ireland and enrolled as a Fulbright Scholar in the Master of Arts Program at Dublin City University. Godspeed Bizzy and have a great time in Ireland!
