Its been some crazy warm weather. Who would ever think that in the middle of January we would not have to turn the heat on? I sure hope that the bears don't suddenly wake up and take out my winter bird feeders for a little mid hibernation snack!

Once again, the community and the Town of Highland is rallying around one of its own who needs our support while dealing with a health crisis. So, mark your calendar to save the date!

On February 22nd there will be a Pasta with a Purpose Dinner at the Highland Town Hall to benefit Lenore Nizzico who is having a re-occurrence of cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. Many people in town know Lenore from Pecks Market where she worked for over 10 years.

Of course, our country's disgraceful healthcare system being what it is, Lenore needs to keep working full time while undergoing a pretty rigorous chemo schedule so she can keep her health insurance coverage! Serving time for the Pasta with a Purpose dinner is 1 p.m. to 7 pm and it is eat in or take out and there will be raffle tickets available at the door.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under five years old. Ticket can be pre-purchased by calling Michelle Flood at 845-394-8501 and Alice Foster at 845-701-0378. There is a fundraising donation site for Lenore on the Living in Barryville Facebook page. For more information contact Michelle Flood or Theresa Lilly at 845-222-4062.

As the daughter of a veteran I always find myself on alert for any news or opportunities for vets. Ken's Gun Clinic is looking for veterans to work as stock refinishers, making gun repairs and appraisals and some previous repair experience is preferred. It's a full time 40 hour a week position and pays $15.00 an hour. For more information call Ken at 845-292-3606 or email him at kenstorer2002
