The Farmer's Almanac is predicting that we will start to get snow in late November in this part of the country so it's a good time to consider getting your living space ready for winter's blasting cold. New York State has a weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) under the Department of Homes and Community Renewal Program that might be able to help.

This energy conservation program is the largest in the country and assists income eligible homeowners and renters in New York State by working on conservation measures while addressing any health and safety measures the living space may have and reducing the amount of energy needed to comfortably heat and air condition in privately owned single family and multifamily buildings.

The Program pays for adding insulation in attics and into walls, heating system repairs, energy efficient upgrades to existing units or replacements, sealing of cracks and holes to reduce heat loss, repairing or replacing windows and outside doors and providing efficient lighting and refrigeration.

All the services are delivered through a network of local service providers who use their own licensed construction crews or hire local contractors to perform the work. All services are provided without cost to the occupant of the home, renters, but rental building owners are required to invest funds towards the weatherization services. Eligibility for these free services are based on household income with priority given to seniors, families with children and the disabled.

For example, for a household of one anyone with a monthly income of $2,391($28,692 per year) for a family of two $3,127 a month ($37,524 a year) or less is eligible as is any household that receives SSI, Public Assistance, Food Stamps or HEAP benefits all are automatically eligible for free weatherization services.

For an application or to get additional information about the Sullivan County WAP contact Delaware Opportunities, Inc at 607-746-1690 or go to www.delawareopportunities.org/weatherization or call the Weatherization Assistance Program at 518-474-5700.

The Piazza Pizza in Eldred always has interesting varieties of pizzas available, but right now they are featuring a pizza special that's out of this world. It's a Reuben (like the sandwich) thin crusted stone fired pizza and its delicious. Not your $7.00 pizza that's for sure! I give it a five star “Clean Plate Club of America” rating. So, stop by and try it out before the end of October when the outdoor Pizza Piazza closes for the season.

Looking for work? The US Census is still hiring and has a lot of different kinds of positions. I have a friend who is working for the Census this year and she can work flexible hours and got paid for her training hours and gets paid every week.

You can apply online at 2020census.gov/jobs or call 855-job-2020.
