WURTSBORO — At least four people were reported to have sustained serious burns during a structure fire at 55 Gumaer Falls Road in the village of Wurtsboro on November 28.

The Wurtsboro Fire Department were assisted on the scene by Rock Hill Fire Department, Summitville Fire Department, Bloomingburg Fire Department, Westbrookville Fire Department, Sullivan County Bureau of Fire and Bureau Fire Investigators, Sullivan County Bureau of EMS 1, Mamakating EMS, Rock Hill EMS, and Mobilemedic EMS. They were joined by Medevac’s Lifenet 75 and Hackensack Air 1. 

Also present were New York State Police, Orange and Rockland Utilities, the Red Cross, Town Of Mamakating Code Enforcement Officers, and the Wurtsboro Fire Department Auxiliary.

Sullivan County Fire Coordinator John Hauschild reported that of the four civilians that were injured, two were transported to Westchester Medical Center and two were treated at local hospitals.

The structure was reported to be a total loss with the cause of the fire still under investigation by Sullivan County Bureau of Fire Investigators.

Members of the Edward M. Maier Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post #4947 assisted in establishing a community fund to help the family affected by the fire. Those looking to assist can make monetary donations out to VFW Post 4947, and it is requested that checks are marked “for Hugo Ramirez” in the comment section.
