HURLEYVILLE - The First Annual Afrofuturism Celebration at The Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre is a month-long event centered around the images and imaginings of an Afro-centricly bright future. This celebration includes a month-long gallery exhibition at Gallery222 featuring Afrofuturist Tim Fielder, book signing, workshop and a film screening, intending to bring awareness of this genre, described by Ytasha Womack as “an intersection of imagination, technology, the future and liberation”.
The events begin August 1 and end on August 31 at Gallery222, located on 222 Main Street in Hurleyville. Events include:
“How to draw black superheroes and comics” with Tim Fielder of DieselFunk Studios, starting at 12 pm on August 13. Admission is free, donations are suggested.
A gallery reception from 4 pm - 7 pm at Gallery222 on August 13.
A showing of the film “Neptune Frost” at the HPAC Cinema August 12 and 13 at 7:30 pm, and August 14 at 2 pm. $12 per person.
