HPAC to host second annual Indigenous Women’s Voices Summit

HURLEYVILLE – Hurleyville Performing Arts Centre (HPAC) is honored to be hosting the Indigenous Women’s Voices Summit (IWVS) for the second year in a row. This is a series of live and virtual events celebrating and igniting creative change spanning September to November of 2021.

The goal of the summit is to foster community building between nations and bring together traditional teachings and contemporary minds in an effort to imagine ways forward for indigenous peoples. While there is much talk about the suffering and trauma in and around native communities, it is also important to celebrate the ways in which these individuals are growing and thriving. The visiting artists and their communities have a lot to teach about how to find strength in laughter, joy and respect for other living things.

The summit will include performances, artwork, and discussion from indigenous artists such as Jennifer Kreisberg, Margaret Jacobs, Mona Cliff, Erin Lee Antonak, Luzene Hill, and Mary V. Bordeaux.

“I am looking forward to sharing physical space and real-time with the community. While many things can be shared online the best part for me are the moments that happen after the main event. To be able to have one-on-one conversations and get to the heart of things. We also have an exciting Indigenous Food event that you must be present to enjoy,” says Erin Lee Antonak.

Antonak is a Wolf Clan member of the Oneida Indian Nation of New York, Curator of Art at the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum, and Yale Morse College Fellow. She heads the steering committee for IWVS II and was a featured artist for the summit in 2020.

The full schedule of events and additional details can be found at hurleyvilleartscentre.org/iwvs2021.

Online artist demos and virtual panels are by donation with registration. Summit Saturday pass $30.00. Gallery viewing Q&A, artists talk, and live music have limited in-person seating at Gallery 222. All pass holders will have an opportunity to meet the artists. Proof of Vaccination Required. All virtual & hybrid events will be recorded and available to view after the event.
