LAKE HUNTINGTON – Make no mistake about it: there are angels who walk among us. Audra Sipple-Spath, a beloved teacher at Livingston Manor, wife to husband John and mother to daughters Karlee and Kara was one of those celestial beings who visited the earth and made it better by their presence. Audra, who passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2022, was beloved by all who knew her including family, friends and her students at Livingston Manor, as well as by her colleagues whose days were made brighter by her unique presence in Wildcat Country.

In their high school days at Sullivan West, Karlee and Kara could always count on Audra’s presence in the stands cheering them on. In her honor, and for the benefit of a scholarship in her name which will be available to students at Manor, a basketball hoops day featuring junior varsity and varsity boys and girls games was held on February 11. The day also featured the young men and women from the Town of Callicoon youth basketball program, kids who are coached and mentored by Sullivan West basketball players. The stands were packed with enthusiastic supporters from both school districts, as well as those from Roscoe who came to see their JV girls vie against SW. Orange T-Shirts emblazoned with the logo Audra Sipple-Spath Scholarship Fund, Never Stop Learning added color and verve to the lively atmosphere.

The non-league varsity games gave the vocal Sullivan West Dawg Pound plenty to cheer about as the Bulldogs won the boys game 63 to 24. Jacob Hubert led his team with 14 points. Evan Ebert posted 11 and Brandon Haas had ten. The 7-9 Bulldogs were six-for-eight from the stripe. Manor high scorer Dan Tolbert netted 12 points.

In the girls game, the 10-4 Lady Westies ran by Manor to the tune of 37-15. Karlee Diehl scored eight points, Lanie Herbert had seven, while Felicity Bauernfeind and Anna Bernas posted six apiece. Manor was paced by Hailey Wolcott’s six points.

Sullivan West canned eight of its 12 free throws to help propel the win. Manor was one-for-three from the line.
