Independence Day comes early to Honesdale’s Central Park

HONESDALE, PA - Start Independence Weekend 2022 off with a bang this year! The Independence Day Celebration will commence on Saturday, July 2, starting at 6:30 PM. This event is presented by the Wayne County Creative Arts Council (WCCAC), as part of the 54th annual Summer Festival of Events. (The rain date will be at Sunday, July 3.)

Honesdale’s beautiful Central Park will once again be the site of the Celebration. Court Street in front of the Courthouse will be filled with food and merchandise vendors. There will be activity booths for kids, and a full night of musical entertainment leading up to the Fireworks Display, sponsored by the Greater Honesdale Partnership, at approximately 9:30 PM.

The Doug Smith Band will start off the festivities at 6:30. Doug and his fellow musicians bring decades of experience and musical expertise, covering a wide range of American music from old-time Dixieland to classic jazz and popular standards.

Following the Doug Smith Band at 8 PM will be the Crystal Band from Scranton, performing a selection of patriotic, light classical, and brass band favorites under the direction of Doreen Hughes Ignatovich. The Crystal Band has been a part of the music scene in Northeastern PA for 140 years!

Star vocalist Ekat Pereyra will be featured singing the National Anthem before the fireworks display at dusk.

Come early, bring your chair or a blanket, and prepare for a lovely but warm evening. (No alcohol or smoking, please.) There’s no admission charge for Summer Festival events, but there will be a free will collection to help support the musicians and the WCCAC.
