Where can I get a good haircut? Where can my 14-year-old get a summer job? What’s a good place to eat? Who’s a good vet in these parts?
The questions come fast and furious in local Facebook groups, and the beauty of crowd-sourcing these sorts of queries is the answers tend to be varied, providing you with a plethora of options.
There’s just one problem.
Sullivan County is about 997 square miles.
A drive from Lew Beach at the northernmost point in the county south to the Town of Lumberland will likely take you more than an hour.
Head from Long Eddy on the western side to Wurtsboro on the eastern side, and again you’re facing a trek of an hour or maybe more.
We’ve got mountains to climb and rivers to kayak. We’ve got streams to fish and fields to farm.
And even most Sullivan County residents haven’t seen it all, have yet to visit many of the small hamlets that make up the 15 townships in our county.
So perhaps you can see why these questions, well-intended as they are, are unlikely to yield satisfactory answers.
Where can your 14-year-old get a summer job?
An answer for a Lew Beach resident that suggests a place in Glen Spey is probably out of the question, at least with the current price of gas.
Living in the Town of Mamakating and hoping to take your skittish dog to the veterinarian? Something tells me a a 45-minute car ride won’t put your pup at ease.
It’s a simple enough ask: Tell us where you live, or at least where you’re looking for information.
We’ll give you a plethora of options ... but this time they’ll be options you can use!
