Is total shutdown the answer?

One has to look at facts at the impending suggestion to immediately shut down all bars, restaurants, beaches, hair salons and ban all non-essential travel in all fifty states.

The epidemiological data is convincing. The New York Times reports that Kinsa Health, a national company that follows the body temperatures of one million Americans to whom it has distributed internet-connected thermometers, showed a distinct slowing of virus transmission where state lockdowns were in force.

Not looking at political impacts we hear discussions that the time has come to have total state lockdowns.

Everyone of all political faiths must realize this issue is far more important then politics.

No politician or political party should look for kudos's in the management of this crisis.

Everyone must take this epidemic seriously.

A bold national shutdown would monopolize all the attention and as for the economy, the sooner we close down, the sooner we can reopen.

A news report last week was somewhat disturbing when it was announced that Orange County Executive Steve Newhaus had requested for a containment zone in Kiryas Joel (said to be an area with high cases of coronavirus) but that the state denied the request. Many are saying this was all political.

There is also clinical evidence of the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin, both approved by FDA for off label use. If this in fact is a helpful item then the government should distribute the meds to as many Americans as possible. Millions of doses have been made available by Pharma companies. Whether the drugs are fully effective as a prophylactic or curative or somewhat less so, it would vastly relieve people and be a demonstrable step to stop the virus.

What very well could happen is that all states will close and the meds will be made available and then we might be able to see the end of the tunnel.

Until them stay home and stay safe.
