It’s time for new choices

To dedicate one’s life to public service is one of the most noble ways anyone can spend their limited time on this earth. It is literally an oath to do right by your fellow man, acting honestly and with your best judgement to help improve our society. For his five-decade long career in government we thank President Joe Biden, once a U.S. Senator, former Vice President and now our President. But we must also face the facts.

His recent missteps at the Presidential Debate and at other speaking engagements have cast a considerable amount of doubt on his ability to keep a “Presidential Schedule” for four more years.

We implore President Biden to please step aside and allow the National Democratic Committee to raise up another champion.

While Mr. Biden’s enthusiastic spirit is still present, he is not immune to the physical limitations that encroach upon everyone at some point in their lives. Now is time for the National Democratic Committee to rally its delegates and find a new face and leader of their party. Mr. Biden deserves no less than to enjoy time with his family and friends outside of the turbulence and tremors of the current high pressure – and should we say – most demanding job in the world.

But in terms of age, Republican contender and former President Donald Trump isn’t too far behind Mr. Biden. Both are double the minimum age required to be president, and share almost 160 years between them.

Should Republicans also be searching for a new candidate? Time will tell.

Senior leadership isn’t solely confined to the White House. Members of the legislative branch are showing their years, mainly with House Minority Leader, Mitch McConnell (81) and Representative Nancy Pelosi (84).

While most Americans work in the interest and hope of retiring before it is too late, so many political leaders seem to be unable to let go of the reigns of power.

But that is a topic for another day. As for our presidential candidates, they must always remember that they are set up on the highest pedestals and under the most powerful microsopes, and it’s no secret to anyone following their recent debate that the ever-ticking Father Time  has shown no sign of slowing down.

Surely our young nation deserves something better. We stand as the head of the free world and yet sometimes we still struggle to find and elect enthusiastic candidates that are young and talented.

Our country deserves no less.
