April 14th to 20th is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week where we recognize our unsung heroes that work 24/7 taking our calls for help, our first-first responders! They work day and night taking your calls for help and at the same time are a lifeline for our first responders in the field. I know because I was one of them for 30+ years as an EMT in the Jeffersonville Volunteer 1st Aid Corps. So many times, thankful for the voice on the other end of the radio. In Sullivan County our 911 dispatchers dispatch approximately 40,000 incidents a year and process nearly 100,000 phone calls per year. Join me in thanking our dispatchers for the challenging work they do each day!
