I hope everyone is surviving the horrible storms we have been experiencing. Many thanks to our Highway Department personnel, Fire Departments, EMS Providers, Police Agencies and NYSEG, too, for working tirelessly to help with the downed poles/wires, flooding and anything else that happens.

I recently learned the Annual Drive-thru Chicken BBQ sponsored by The United Reformed Church has been canceled. Let’s hope they are able to return next year.

The Cornell Cooperative Extension of Sullivan County (CCESC) is sponsoring a 4-H Poultry Program on October 22nd.This program is intended for Sullivan County Youth between the ages of 5 and 18 who are interested in poultry. Learn about chickens, ducks, turkeys and more.

Youth will learn what they can do in the Poultry 4-H Project area in Sullivan County or gain basic knowledge about having their own poultry. Topics such as breeds, poultry management skills, nutrition, common terms, selection and showing are just some areas to be covered.

This program will be held on October 22nd at the CCESC building in Liberty. To register visit https://sullivan.ccext.net/civicrm/event/info?id=723&reset=1. For questions about the program contact Barbara Moran at bjm292@cornell.edu.

Sullivan County Poet Laureate will be at the Jeff Jamboree!

Visit the Western Sullivan Public Library at the Jeffersonville Jamboree on Saturday, September 18th, from 10a.m. to 2p.m. and meet special guest Eric Baylin, the Sullivan County Poet Laureate.

In addition, at approximately 2p.m. Eric will be at the Schadt Memorial Bridge to kick off the Annual Duck Race with a pre-race poem! Be sure to hear Eric recite and delight the line-up of highly competitive rubber duckies before they embark on…the race of their lifetime!!

Eric was an upper and middle school teacher at Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights for 37 years. In his retirement, he was selected from a pool of ten worthy applicants and named the third Sullivan County Poet Laureate. Also, the WSPL’s Book Club Meets In-Person this month on Thursday, September 30th at 6p.m., location TBA. Pick up a copy of the novel “Four Winds” by Kristin Hannah and take a literary trip to Texas, circa 1934. A Depression-era woman confronts a wrenching choice between fighting for the Dust Bowl-ravaged land she loves in Texas or pursuing an uncertain future in California. Register on our website so they can let you know the location of their next meeting.

Our schools open this week, please be very careful of the buses and children crossing the street. Let’s hope this year is much better than the last.

Please let me know if you have any information to share!
