Joel B. Kurtz of Callicoon, NY a Building Designer and a long-time area resident, died Saturday, August 3, 2024 at his home. He was 84. The son of the late Byrnes and Gwendolyn Bless Kurtz, he was born June 13, 1940 in Paterson, New Jersey.
Joel proudly served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War; he was an honorable member of the Hortonville Fire Department; a former member of many community organizations. He patented two inventions, the Split Keel and the Custom Barge Works.
Survivors include his wife, Linda B. Utter Kurtz, at home; one daughter, Darlene Gattus and her husband, Pete, of Cochecton; one son, Kristofer Kurtz and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hortonville, NY; one granddaughter, Sonya Gattus; one grandson, Robert Kurtz; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister, Elaine Emmett.
A memorial service will be Sunday, August 18, 2024 at 3 PM at the Hortonville Fire Department Pavilion. Dignified cremation provided by Harris Crematorium LLC.
