John Andrew Semonite of Bushnell, Florida, a former resident of Wurtsboro, New York, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 in Zephyrhills, FL. He was 71.

The son of the late Radcliffe W. Semonite and Drusilla E. Stackhouse Semonite, he was born October 14, 1951 in Middletown, NY.

John graduated from Monticello High School. He was a proud veteran, having served in the United States Marine Corps.  His many years of work included running his own garbage collection business, several automotive related jobs, including one for Pike Electric, working on their equipment. His favorite thing to do was to attend swap meets for buying and selling parts and rebuilding transmissions. John could fix the transmission on a vintage Corvette and on an 18-wheeler.

Although John resided in Florida, he loved taking the occasional long road trip to see his NY friends and family. During the Fall, he would load his truck with bushels of the best Hudson Valley apples and bring them back to former Wurtsboro families who had made their way south and lived near him there, and to friends and neighbors.  John was a wonderful brother. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a good friend. He had many.

He is survived by a brother, George Semonite of Wurtsboro; two sisters, Mary Niemann of Athens, TN; and Agnes Lanfear (Bob) of Lehigh Acres, FL, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 23 at VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro, from 9:00 am, followed by a graveside military service and interment of his ashes at the Sylvan Cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Sylvan Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 283, or the Food Pantry of the Community Church of Wurtsboro, P.O. Box 487- each located in Wurtsboro, NY, 12790.

Arrangements under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro. For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com .
