On October 8th, John Black left this sweet earth that he walked on for 78 years. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. He retired from the Town of Fallsburg Highway Department as a foreman in 1998. He had a passion for the simple life, enjoyed hiking, the ocean, gardening, music, and many adventures in the outdoors with his wife of 57 years, Laverne. Always a family man who wholeheartedly was devoted to his wife, daughters and grandchildren. He was there for “his girls” who he loved dearly and was beyond proud of them. He was born in Manhattan on June 3, 1943 to the late John and Ruth Black.

His family and friends will remember him as a loving, generous man who had a unique sense of humor and told you how it was.

John Black of Woodbourne is survived by his wife, LaVerne Black. His daughters, Nadine Black and her husband Joe Kowalski, Rebecca Stanton and her husband Vincent Stanton. His granddaughters, Brianna Goetschius, Heather Goetschius, and Emma Stanton. His brother Craig Black and his wife Bernadette Black, his sister Carol Black. He was predeceased by his siblings Mark Charnowsky and Joan Charnowsky.

Services will be held on October 31st at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 1152 State Route 52, Loch Sheldrake, NY. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be followed and are required at all times.

Donations in John’s name can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan, 800 Stony Brook Ct., Newburgh, NY 12550
