Jonathan R. Mears, of Livingston Manor, passed away on May 22, 2021. He was 65.

Jonathan was born on December 15, 1955 in Liberty, NY to John Mears and Fay Wood Mears. After graduating from Livingston Manor School District, he went on to serve in the United States Navy aboard the USS Nespelen (AOG-55) and the USS America (CV-66). After serving his country, John was a faithful employee of the Roscoe School District for many years.

John was an active member of the community and devoted family man. An Eagle Scout himself, he volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America as Scout Master, as well as a 4H Shooting Sports Instructor. He was a member of several organizations, including the Free and Accepted Masons, Sullivan County Trappers Association, where he also served as a trapper training instructor. John was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

John is survived by his loving wife, Rena Mears, whom he married on October 17, 1991; his father, John Mears, of Livingston Manor; his siblings, James Mears and Debra Miller, of Livingston Manor; his children, Daniel Bertholf and his wife, Suzette, Aaron Bertholf and his wife Shannon, and Joseph Bertholf and his companion, Kristen; and Colleen McAdams and her spouse, Scott; his grandchildren, Tabitha, Montana, Austin, Cody, Danielle, Bradyn, Madison, Shane, Christian, and Mackenzie; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother, Fay Mears, his sister Patti Weickum, and brother-in-law, John Miller, all of Livingston Manor.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Colonial Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor. A funeral service officiated by Rev. Carl Caskey will be held on Friday, May 28, at 11 a.m. at the Funeral Home followed by interment at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery in Liberty, NY. Social distancing guidelines as set forth by the New York State Department of Health will be in place; masks must be worn at all times.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in John's name to Calvary Baptist Church of Sullivan County, PO Box 621, Neversink, NY 12765.
