Josephine J. Currier of Monticello, NY passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 85 years old.

Josephine was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late John and Marie Rachel “Gertrude” Regina on March 18, 1939. She will be met in heaven by the love of her life, the late Carmine J. Currier.

After moving their family up to Sullivan County from Long Island in the late 1970s, Josephine and Carmine worked side-by-side for 25 years as the owners of Frankel Hardware in Liberty, NY. They were inseparable and enjoyed taking trips together, especially to the casinos of Atlantic City, NJ. Josephine had quite the luck playing the slots. One of her biggest jackpots was winning a car at the Trump Castle back in 1990.

Josephine was known for being very kindhearted and generous with quite the sense of humor. She was a very strong and fearless woman who was always up for a good time. She had quite the energy about her and could run circles around anyone, even in her later years. She was nicknamed the “energizer bunny” by her granddaughter Terri, who she was also inseparable from.

Josephine loved the warm weather and was often found sitting in the sun on her back porch reading and feeding the birds. She especially loved when the red cardinals visited along with the deer. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved to feed them. She was a great cook and spent every holiday preparing a traditional Italian feast alongside her husband and daughter Mary Jean. Everyone loved her meatballs and stuffed artichokes. Josephine will be missed beyond words by her family and friends.

She is survived by her son, George Currier of California; her daughter, Mary Jean Risko, and her significant other Dave Swart of Woodbourne, NY; her granddaughter, Terri Risko and her significant other Darin Kinney of Forestburgh, NY; her grandsons, Casey and Ashton Currier and granddaughters Nevada, Dawn and Hannah Currier; a sister, Theresa Scavo of Holbrook, NY and a brother, Larry Regina of Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her “partner in crime” Mary Morano of Liberty, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carmine and her siblings Anna, Jeanne, Marie, John and Sammy.

The family of Josephine would like to thank the medical staff who cared for her before her passing. A special thank you to Dr. Fiorianti, Dr. Abadir and Dr. Gotsis who took such excellent care of Josephine for the last decade or more. Their expertise allowed Josephine to have many more years with her family.
