Joyce M. Ramsey, age 88, of Sidney, NY passed away on March 24, 2022 surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Huguenot, NY on December 16, 1933 to the late parents Melvin and Emily Jenks.
She is predeceased by her husband Reverend Ralph W. Ramsey, daughter Kimberlee J Scudder, son-in-law Clifford Scudder, sister Emily Theodore, sister-in-law Paula Jenks, and brother-in-laws Walter Sheehey, Lysander Thompson and Earl Theodore.
She is survived by her son Gary F. Ramsey and his wife Marilyn of Sidney Center, siblings Janice Thompson, Marie Sheehey, Evelyn Rave (Henry), Melvin Jenks (Regina), and John Jenks, 5 Grandchildren; Emily Croxford, Karen Cappiello, Sara Ingalls (Joseph), Jayme Ledford (David) and Christopher Scudder (Colleen), and 9 Great-Grandchildren; Zachary and Hailey Cappiello; Hunter, Ryder, and Benjamin Croxford; Noah and Autumn Ledford; and Alexia and Brooke Ingalls, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was a graduate of Orange County Community College and SUNY Oneonta. She was a hospital RN for many years, working in the operating and emergency rooms before becoming a School Nurse Teacher for Monticello Central School District. Upon retirement she enjoyed working with her local theater group and actively supporting the Unadilla and Mongaup Valley United Methodist Churches where she formed many relationships within the church communities. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and watching a good game of baseball or football. She was an excellent cook, and passed many of her recipes on to her grandchildren. Affectionately known as Nana, she spent many of her summers and more with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, where they built memories of ice skating, theater, and swimming to name a few. The car ride to Kutcher’s was always filled with music and Nana singing along with her grandchildren especially to Disney soundtracks. Nana never missed a celebration - she loved her family and it was her most prized possession.
A funeral service will be held on April 9, at 2 p.m. at the Mongaup Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Joycelyn Jordan will officiate. Burial will be in Mongaup Valley Union Cemetery immediately following. Joyce was a consistent donor to many worthwhile charities. In lieu of flowers (she was allergic to fresh cut flowers), please donate in her name to the charity of your choice.
