Kathleen “Kathy” Reid, age 79, a former resident of Manhattan and Sullivan County, NY, passed away on November 07, 2019, in Lyons, NY. Born in the Town of Victory on August 24, 1940, Kathy was the daughter of the late S. Webster Reid and Loretto (Maroney) Reid of Victory, NY.

Kathy graduated co-salutatorian from Red Creek Central School in Wayne County in 1958, and graduated cum laude from LeMoyne College in Syracuse in 1962. She received an MA in Religious Education from Catholic University of America in 1964/65. Her initial teaching career at Immaculata College for Women in Washington, D.C. was interrupted by a serious car accident in 1964. She then began to work in direct marketing, first in D.C. for the National Council of Catholic Men, then in New York City for Herder Publishers, and later for Scholastic Inc.

A seven-week federal jury case broke her corporate focus, and led to Kathy starting Reid Resources, her own marketing consulting and creative direction company, which supported her comfortably until she retired in 2011. Kathy was a volunteer for her non-denominational church, Chelsea Community Church, in New York City. She also volunteered with the union of the FDNY after the attacks of 9/11/01, and for Rising Hope, where she taught in a spiritual education program at Woodbourne Correctional Facility in Woodbourne, NY.

In September of 1975, Kathy bought a cabin on Briscoe Lake, and for three decades, she divided her time between Manhattan and Sullivan County. Sober for more than fifty years, Kathy was a beloved member of the recovery community in Sullivan County as well as in New York. She touched many lives and shared her wisdom, experience, strength, and hope with so many. In 2011, plagued by mobility and other health issues, Kathy sold her home on Briscoe Lake and settled full time in her studio apartment in Manhattan. But she maintained close ties to Sullivan County, returned often to visit, and will be sorely missed by her friends here as well as in Manhattan and her extended family in Upstate New York.

Kathy was predeceased by her parents, S. Webster Reid and Loretto (Maroney) Reid; a sister, Betty Dowd; and a brother, Web Reid. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce (Tom) Beman, Margaret Blondell, Linda (Dick) Pullen, and Melanie (Jimmy) Boyd; a special friend, Joelma Soares; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and loved ones in Sullivan County and Manhattan.

For those wishing to make contributions in Kathy's name, they may do so to the Chelsea Community Church, 346 W 20th St., New York, NY, 10011.
