July 30 - Greetings! What a rainy summer. The farmers are having a very difficult time getting on their hay fields. They need a few days of sunshine and with no rain.  Very hard to do this summer.  When will the weather pattern change? Hopefully soon.

The Kenoza Lake Fire Company’s chicken barbeque was a huge success. The weather cooperated. I heard rave reviews on the chicken, two thumbs up! Bravo to the firemen, including the four men who cooked the birds, namely, Dave Slater, Ed Raum, Gordon Davis and John Garigliano.

If you love barbeque chicken, there is another dinner on Saturday, July 31st, Kauneonga Lake Fire Company, take outs only, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Neighbor and friend Brad Theis, asked that we keep another neighbor in our thoughts and prayers for a good health and a speedy recovery, namely Dr. Yvonne Newland-Pagan. Brad asked that I mention this in my Kenoza Lake news column.

Belated, happy birthday wishes to Oscar Girrbach, who celebrated his special day on Thursday, July 29th.

Several months ago, neighbor, and distant cousin Ruth Duncan advised me that her friend Florence Mercer had a Lowry organ and would the Kenoza Lake United Methodist Church be interested in it. I said yes. Tom Puerschner and Doug Carlin volunteered to pick up the organ and get it into the sanctuary.

This past Sunday, I finally had a few free hours to move the organ around, get things arranged and play a few hymns. Ruth Duncan happened to drive by the church, see my car and popped in.  Perfect timing! Thank you to Florence Mercer for her generous donation, also to Ruth Duncan, Tom Puerschner and Doug Carlin. Your Kenoza Lake United Methodist Church organist is very happy.

The annual parade of summers is so enjoyable to watch. I call it the annual parade. Early each spring, the parade starts with snow drops, then crocuses, daffodils, then tulips, etc. etc. This is the time of the year when the gladiolus will bloom. Leah Waldron always treats me to a huge, spectacular bouquet.

Marigold is in bloom now, Bee’s balm and of course, Black-Eyed Susie’s. The golden rod is coming into bloom now. Allergy sufferers are not happy with that, but late July/early August is when the golden rod turns that mustard yellow.

Milkweeds are in blossom, which makes the monarch butterflies happy, but not the farmers. Thistles are soon going to seed now. Although I love the purple flower, I hate thistles.

Kenoza Lake news column next week, none on August 12th.
