This is always the biggest birding week of the year. This past Sunday, May 1st, Linda Loughery advised me that her hummingbirds arrived. Then later that day, I learned that Harry Walker of Wolf Lake had two hummingbirds at his feeder. My hummers arrived as did the Rose-breasted Grosbeaks and Baltimore Orioles. Last Friday, I had a male Evening Grosbeak at my feeder for five minutes. I saw a blue bird at Brown Farms on Wednesday. Also, I saw flicker near the Brown family farm. Flickers like to eat ants. Speaking of ants, ant season has begun.

Mark your calendar for the upcoming School Board election on Tuesday, May 17th, from noon until 9:00 p.m. As you probably know, there has been significant interest in recent years with school board elections. This is due in part as parents getting more exposed to what their children are really being taught in school. Although I don’t have children in school, I do recall that last year I found it rather disturbing that the Sullivan West school calendar for 2021/2022 added some recent holidays to their school calendar but failed to report the Fourth of July as a holiday. I asked a trusted source who I should vote for, and I was advised to vote for candidates Craig Passante and Kristen Johnston.

I didn’t make it to Paul Zintel’s memorial service last weekend. Paul Zintel was the boy’s coach when I attended then Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School. As I recall, he was my driver’s education teacher and taught me to keep my hands on the steering wheel in the 10/2 position.

Hurry! There are still chicken barbeque tickets available for the Jeffersonville Presbyterian church. Contact Kathy Herbert or Ruth Duncan for more information.
