Morning bird chatter/songs have faded. Now the soft hum of crickets and other such insects. Soothing, until the first frost. A pair of wrens made their summer home on the front porch of the Otto household.

Their second batch of baby birds are chirping, and the parents are feverishly feeding them worms and bugs. Funny though, a few weeks ago wrens were constantly singing and sending out their warning sounds. Now the wrens are silent no wren noise at all.

Many of the birds who migrate north for the spring and summer months have left us. We seem to recognize more of their arrivals in the spring, as opposed to their quiet departures during the summer and fall. Red winged blackbirds seem to have already left, snipes and bobolinks have seemed to have left. I still have a pair of Rose breasted grosbeaks.

Linda Loughery of Jeffersonville tells me that she has had a Baltimore Oriole since early May. Linda advised me that her Baltimore Orioles have gone through six jars of grape jelly. What a treat to have that experience! Baltimore Orioles who spend the entire spring & summer at one's house. The Baltimore Orioles for the Otto residence only spend two weeks here feasting on oranges and grape jelly.

The Kenoza Lake United Methodist Church will resume their services on Sunday, August 9th, 9:30 am, in the sanctuary. Strict COVID-19 safety protocol will be followed.

The White Sulphur Springs Firemen will have a chicken barbeque on Sunday, August 9th from 1 - 4. A big shout out to our local firemen and highway department men, with all of the storm damage from Hurricane Isaisis. We are fortunate that we only lost power for a few hours.

Diehls' farm stand, located between the Kenoza Lake Stone Arch Bridge and Fosterdale has sweet corn, $7.00 a dozen, 60 cents an ear. They also have peaches and other fruits and vegetables.

Check out Gina's yard sale this weekend August 8th & 9th on Old Taylor Road, near Breys' Four Corners, at the former Bertha Bernhardt residence. Chris Slater is also participating in the yard sale.

They make a nice gift for a friend or family member. Not sure if she will have fall and Christmas patterns to choose from, hopefully yes. I bought some nice blue-sky pattern and garden green pattern masks. I frequently see Erin each Saturday morning at the Kauneonga Lake Farmers' market, next to the Veterans' triangle park.
