Lady Wildcats win non-league clash against Class D rival

LIVINGSTON MANOR – After early season cancellations and postponements, the Lady Wildcats got their first look at the Lady Blue Devils on Tuesday afternoon. Many of the players on the court were on the same side of the pitch during soccer season, but the friendship only fueled the defensive effort put forth by both teams. When all was said and done, Livingston Manor managed to control the game wire-to-wire in a 39-8 final.

The game started slow, with Livingston Manor’s patented press keeping Roscoe’s guards from getting up the court effectively. Despite the turnovers and their inability to score in the first quarter, Roscoe’s defense would come up huge in the early going, holding Livingston Manor to just seven points in the first quarter.

Livingston Manor’s offense evolved during the game, with some of the Lady Wildcats gaining the confidence to fire shots from beyond the arc, something they had not utilized much earlier in the season.

“It was nice to see my girls taking perimeter shots confidently,” Manor Coach Maggi Fitzpatrick said. “This is something we’ve been working on throughout the season.”

By halftime, Livingston Manor had extended their lead to 13, taking a 15-2 lead into the break.

The Lady Wildcats got their offense going much more proficiently in the second half, outscoring their opponents 11-0 in the third and 13-6 in the fourth.

“I thought we did a great job defensively today, both on and off the ball and with rotating between different defensive looks,” Fitzpatrick added.

Tuesday’s meeting was a non-league matchup, but these two teams will face off twice more in the regular season for their league contests in early February.
