I am typing my column and listening to the news talking about hurricane Henri, how it is going to be like hurricane Sandy. I hope not. I have a lot of family and friends on Long Island. I pray they are all safe.

This Saturday, August 28 will be a ‘Farewell to the Nutshell Arts Center’ located at 6692 State Route 52, Lake Huntington, NY 12752 from 5 pm - 7 pm the Nutshell presents “THE LAST PICTURE ART SHOW”.

Admission is free and open to the public. Exhibit Dates: Saturday, August 2 – September 12, hours: Fridays 2-6 pm, Saturdays & Sundays noon - 6 pm.

I had many fun times in the Nutshell doing Penny Socials when I first moved up here; many nights drinking.

A big thank you to Juan and Carmen for being a very big part of the town for many years.

On Saturday, August 28 the Cochecton Ambulance Corps will be hosting a blood drive at the Cochecton town hall 9 am - 2 pm. For more info, you can email www.cochectonambulanceems@gmail.com. Online signup is at redcrossblood.org.

If you would like to make a donation to the Ambulance Corps their address is PO Box 4, Lake Huntington, NY 12752.

On Saturday, September 18, The Cochecton Men’s Club is having a chicken BBQ. Pickup will be at the Cochecton Men’s Club ball field down in the flats by the post office between 2 - 4 p.m., donation is $13. The men’s club is also selling raffle tickets, prizes are nice amounts of money, tickets are $20 each. For more information please give Sean Nearing a call at 845-807-3933.

Save the Date: Saturday, October 16, the Lake Huntington Ladies Aid will be holding their Penny Social. The ladies are working hard to get this event going, stay tuned for more information.
