Hello, do you love this cooler weather? Less than 100 days till Christmas. It’s been a little bit easier when events are going on.

As most of you know I am on Facebook all the time and one of my favorite sites to visit is Lake Huntington NY. I saw a post about local farms that sell their products. I was thinking of going to a farm and getting fresh meat. It’s a good idea to support local farmers.

Thinking back as a kid my mom would give me money (I was like 9-10) and send me to the butcher (5 city blocks away) to get $2 worth of chuck chop. You were able to watch the butcher put the meat into a grinder that made the chuck chop, we call it chop meat today. I remember he would throw pieces of fat in it. I knew the butcher would give me a slice of Baloney at the end. I liked playing with the saw dust on the floor with my shoes while I waited. Some of the local farms are JR’S Fresh Beef, Butchies Organic Farm, Summer Creek Farm and Twin Brook Farm. Cunningham farms sell their fruits and vegetables. I am sure there are so many more.

Ken Parks as General Manager of the nonprofit Delaware Valley Opera, I’d like to announce to anyone who hasn’t already heard the news, as of Monday, September 13th, the DVO will become the new owners of the Nutshell buildings. It is our mission to maintain these historic buildings and use them in such a way as to make them available and accessible to the community and the entire county. Plans for the bar/restaurant building are still unclear, but we do want to see something in there to serve the Lake Huntington/Cochecton neighborhood.

We’re planning a small production the first weekend in December, followed by renovation/restoration work through the winter for the 2022 summer season, but may announce other events as we’re able to handle them. Looking forward to the future in these great old buildings!

We are obviously looking for financial support to help fund the renovation/restoration projects needed, and our donation page can be found at https://delawarevalleyopera.networkforgood.com/projects/127683-support-the-dvo-in-2021-and-beyond. Any support is greatly appreciated!

As we celebrate our 35th season, exciting things are in the works for the DVO with the acquisition of our very own home, the Delaware Valley Opera Center (DVOC) and your generous support will help make those plans a reality. Please lend any support you are able, and be sure you are on our mailing list to keep abreast of the latest news as the DVO enters an exciting new phase in its long history!

Two Cochecton residents received awards from the Upper Delaware Council at the 33rd Annual River Valley Awards held on September 12th. Rocky Pinciotti received the Cultural Achievement Award and Larry Richardson received the Oaken Gavel Award. Congrats to both of them.

If you have an event or any town information you can email me at leeniebeans@ citlink.net or call me at (845) 252-3568. Keep smiling and have a great week.
