January 10 — Lake Huntington, NY – The New Year is off to a great start with warm temperatures- does not bode well for our skiing-hungry kids. Those skis that Santa brought this year may have to wait until the snow comes and the temperatures drops.

We were able to get a one day in at Villa Roma last week and they had a blast. The ski hills at Villa Roma are perfect for beginner skiers and they offer both private and group lessons for both skiing and snowboarding.

The Villa Roma also offers snow tubing as well. Be sure to call (845) 887-4880 before you go to make sure the ski hill is open, and the snow tube runs are operating that day.

Another cold weather past- time in the Sullivan Catskills is ice fishing, so be sure to mark your calendars for the Sullivan County Lake Superior Ice Fishing derby on January 21 from 6 AM – 2 PM. Payouts for biggest perch, crappie and pickerel. $30 per person and pre-registration required with Venmo @Bryan-Maida.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Youth Ice Fishing Tournament in memory of Gerald “Jerry” Bruce Sheppard hosted by Smugglers Nob Rod & Gun Club on Saturday, February 4th from 8 AM – 2 PM on Mitchell Pond, Cochecton, NY. Bring the kids of all ages out for a fun-filled day of ice fishing (all kids fish for free). Food and beverages for all kids who participate, and all children will be eligible for prizes. Transportation will be provided by club members, no outside ATV/UTVs. Registration will be upon entry. Fishing regulations will be in accordance with the NYSDEC. Contact Harold “Boomer” Russell  (845-583-6602) or Kevin Esselman (845-932-7829) with any questions.

The Sullivan County Conservation Club will hold its annual King of the Ice on February 19. For over 30 years, the Sullivan County Conservation Club has presented the area's premier ice fishing contest... King of the Ice! Hats, 50-50 and raffle tickets will be available at the registration site.  Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for winning fishing categories:  Trout, Pickerel, Perch, Crappie, Walleye.
