January 24 — As we enter the last week of January, I am hoping we will get a little bit of snow this season! I have been dying to try snow shoeing, but I think I need snow to make that happen. Read on for a few events happening in and around our area.

Red Dogs Football Registration is open! The Red Dogs will be holding a registration event on January 28 from 9 AM -Noon at the Sullivan West Elementary School. $40 for cheer and flag football and $60 for junior/senior tackle football. Save $10 on early registration and $5 on multiple players.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Youth Ice Fishing Tournament in memory of Gerald “Jerry” Bruce Sheppard hosted by Smugglers Nob Rod & Gun Club on Saturday, February 4th from 8 AM – 2 PM on Mitchell Pond, Cochecton, NY. Bring the kids of all ages out for a fun-filled day of ice fishing (all kids fish for free). Food and beverages for all kids who participate, and all children will be eligible for prizes. Transportation will be provided by club members, no outside ATV/UTVs. Registration will be upon entry. Fishing regulations will be in accordance with the NYSDEC. The 2023 Town of Neversink Winterfest is coming up on February 4th from 11 AM – 4 PM at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds. Support the Tri-Valley Little League and TV Bear Cub Basketball by treating yourself to some delicious hamburgers, hot dogs, pretzels, sodas and more! Enjoy the town’s ice rink - open and free to everyone! (Helmets are required and skates are available for rent). Enjoy music by Jesse Noren and Shane Rennison while you keep warm by the fire pits and enjoy a drink at the Roadhouse Rolling Bar! Don’t forget to visit the vendor barn and do some local shopping and visit the arts & crafts barn so the kids can complete a free craft project! If the weather cooperates, bring your sled for sleigh riding and compete in our snowman building contest!

The Sullivan County Conservation Club will hold its annual King of the Ice on February 19, 2023.  For over 30 years, the Sullivan County Conservation Club has presented the area's premier ice fishing contest... King of the Ice!  Hats, 50-50 and raffle tickets will be available at the registration site.  Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded for winning fishing categories:  Trout, Pickerel, Perch, Crappie, Walleye.  Youth trophies also awarded to kids in each category (no cash prizes).
