Lewis W. Marchant, a longtime resident of this area, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was 71 years old.

The son of the late Lewis Marchant and Kathryn (Williams) Marchant, he was born in 1951 in Port Jervis, NY.  Lewis was the loving husband of Jacqueline (Houston) Marchant.

Lewis attended Orange County Community College, then proudly served in the US Coast Guard during the Vietnam War, from 1970-1974, as a Radioman 3rd class, serving on the USCGC Morgenthau.  He worked for 25 years at Wakefern Food Corporation until they relocated to Pennsylvania, then worked nine years at Konica Minolta Supplies Manufacturing from which he retired.  He was a longtime member of the American Legion.  Lewis and his wife enjoyed many years of traveling adventures in their favorite vacation spot, Maine, with their beloved dog, Dobby.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Jackie, at home. Lewis is also lovingly survived by his step-daughter Emily McElroy Bunnenberg, step-son-in-law Scott Bunnenberg and their children, Mark and Jack; nephew Ed Wolfe, his wife Maury and their children, Hayes and Amelia; niece Kathryn, her husband Andrew and their children, Wilder, Quinn and Rowan; and brother-in-law Guy Wolfe.  He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara “Bobbie” Wolfe.

The family would like to give thanks and gratitude to Dr. Robert Dinsmore, along with his exceptional oncology care team, and Dr. Geoffrey Hulse of Crystal Run Healthcare for their dedicated and excellent care during Lewis’ illness. A very warm and special “thank you” to his West Team at Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc. for their valued devotion, compassion and care of Lewis in his final days.

As it was his wish to be cremated, a Celebration of his Life will be announced at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made in his memory to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, Inc., 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY  12550, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.  For additional information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.kennyfuneralhome.com.
